Boutell Brothers

Boutell Brothers, First Avenue & Fifth Street, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA

First seen: 18-Nov-1933
Last seen: 17-Feb-1934

Brand(s): Plato

Plato was the brand used by the Boutell Brothers for their Minneapolis chain store.

They began advertising the brand in time for Christmas 1933, and seem to vanish the following spring.

This seems a fairly scarce variant.

Plato variants:

P
L
A
T
O
201-A
1
Tube
{v1} Globe, short bakelite base, tipless

We know from collectors that Plato 201A were produced. Given the timing of the Plato brand, it appears that they never advertised the 201s, likely due to becoming obsolete before the brand was introduced. By 1933, Screen Grid tubes dominated. It is possible that both globe and ST variations existed.
