On {v1} we find a date stamp of "332" in silver ink on the base, an uncommon practice up until this time. The tube includes the inspection/guarantee notice, the foil brand label, clear engraving, strong emissions. The original carton is snug as if this tube came free in one of the 'Amazing deals' but never saw service. The inner carton is marked 'S-14' for the envelope size.

Free Radio with tube purchase

Premier brand tubes appear to have been mostly sold as part of an advertising gimmick used to sell radios. R.D.A. (no, not RCA!) was selling what we now call 'boat anchors' to folks for just the price of the tubes.

The idea was that you sell full price (or ahem...OVER priced) tubes, 5-8 of them and you give away the obsolete radio for free.

The only evidence I have found of 'Premier' tubes being sold outside these 'Amazing deals!' is when the tubes are being cleared out in the early 1930's.

Premier box variants:

It is noteworthy that though the box is printed X-201A, included tubes are engraved 201-A. It is not known if the same boxes were used for tube variants engraved MX-201A, or which tube came first.

This specimen came from Dave Andrews of Cartersville, Georgia. Dave was kind enough to cherry-pick the best example from a lot of four. Close inspection shows us all sorts of interesting details. Dave is a trusted source of great tubes from the southeast.
